1. How were the original natural wonders determined?

The original 7 natural wonders of the world were declared by an investigative reporter for CNN.  Although not a scientist, this reporter leveraged his investigative skills and placed personal preferences aside.

Each natural wonder represents statistical significance and not personal bias.  Each wonder represents the tallest or largest with two exceptions.

First, the aurora borealis is a natural phenomenon that earned its status as such.  Second, Paricutin Volcano was selected because it was the youngest volcano in the world.

2. Why is Paricutin Volcano included as a natural wonder?

The Paricutin Volcano in Mexico was included as one of the 7 natural wonders of the world because it’s birth was witnessed in our lifetime.

It is recognized as the youngest volcano in the world.

There has been pushback against Parictin because it does not follow the traditional statistical significance.

Seven Natural Wonders is considering working with experts to select an alternative that would come into alignment with the traditional statistical significance.
