Tortum Waterfall is the largest waterfall throughout the entire country of Turkey, making it both a unique and not to be missed attraction full of natural beauty and wonder. With a total drop of 50 meters (164 feet), the waterfall creates a giant splash and mist that covers the area beneath its fall making it a very popular and sought out attraction for those visiting the beautiful country of Turkey.
The waterfall was created due to the completion of the Tortum Dam and Hydroelectric Plant in the year 1960 and is now fed through water from Tortum Lake using the many channels and tunnels allowing it to rush down into the turbines. Seeing as the waterfall depends solely on the lake and the water within it, there are only two months in which the waterfall is seen of great power. These months are May and June when the water level of the lake is exceptionally high whereas the other months throughout the year simply bring about a rather dry bed of the waterfall.
The surroundings that make up Tortum Waterfall are of course Tortum Lake as well as lush greenery making this attraction all the more beautiful and enticing to visit. This area in which the waterfall is located is also famous for its cultural and natural riches that exude the grounds and rocks that it subsides within. It is in fact often considered as the second most significant waterfall in terms of natural formation.

Tortum Waterfall is located in the Tortum District of Eastern Turkey and more specifically is located 62 miles (100 kilometers) north of Erzurum in the Eastern Antolia Region.

You may also hike, trek and walk through the surroundings that make up the waterfall and find great places for relaxation and picnics on the warmer days.
