Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta is argued as the world’s largest inland delta. The delta is created from the rains that fill the Okavango River which is delivered to the basin of the Kalahari Desert. This is caused from the rainy season that occurs between January and February. The waters begin filling the delta in March and rising to the peak months of July and August.

Central Kalahari Game Reserve

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve was established in 1961 to protect the wildlife and the Kalahari desert area of Botswana. Wildlife serves as the highlight for this wonder of nature. Some of the predator wildlife includes lion, leopard, cheetah, brown hyena and wild dog. Other wildlife of common interest includes giraffe, eland, kudu, hartebeest, warthog and wildebeest. One of the highlights of the reserve is the black-maned lions.

Makgadikgadi Pan

The Makgadikgadi Pan is actually a collection of several pans with the sandy desert of the Kalahari surrounding them and running in between them as well. The largest individual pan, known as Sua, extends across 1,900 square miles (4,921 km2). The Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia is the largest individual salt flat in the world and measures a little more than twice the size of the largest pan in Botswana.

The Moremi Game Reserve is is a wildlife and nature conservation area located in the norther part of Botswana with the majority of the reserve running along the eastern side of the Okavango Delta. The reserve is one of the smaller conservation areas extending only 1,900 square miles (5,000 sq km). The majority of the reserve is within the delta and and only about 30% found outside the delta.
