Endangered Species

Endangered species are one of the greatest concerns for Seven Natural Wonders. The majority of people who love and enjoy the wonders of nature do so because of the various species of fauna, flora, wildlife, bird life or any eclectic combination. Explorers and travelers often engage the wonders of nature because of the various species they might encounter along the way.

Endangered species speak to the reality of how society is treating the environment, the habitats, and the wonders of nature around our amazing globe. In most cases when we speak of endangered wildlife, we are talking about vanishing habitats and ecosystems where these varying species live. The more and more that we invade on their habitats the more we move each species into a mode of surviving versus thriving.

Endangered Wildlife

Endangered species does not just refer to wildlife but rather any living organism whether in the air, in the sea, within the ground or roaming about the earth. Most people are inclined to jump to the animals or wildlife when they think about endangered species. This is often further focused on the animals known as Chordata, which means with vertebrates. Although it is essential to invest in the preservation of all species, the focus for this particular education is going to be on the endangered wildlife.

It is important to take a moment and introduce the categories related to endangered wildlife:

EX Extinct – No reasonable doubt exists that the last individual species has died.

EW Extint in the Wild – The only presence of the species is known to exist only in cultivation, captivity or as a naturalized population.

CR Critically Endangered – Meets the criteria of A-E for Critically Endangered and is therefore considered to be facing extremely high risk of extinction in the wild.

EN Endangered – Meets the criteria of A-E for Endangered and is therefore considered to be facing extremely high risk of extinction in the wild.

VU Vulnerable – Meets the criteria of A-E for Vulnerable and is therefore considered to be facing extremely high risk of extinction in the wild.

NT Near Threatened – Is close to qualifying or is likely to qualify for a threatened category in the near future.

A Threatened animal is any species that is classified either as Critically Endangered, Endangered, or Vulnerable. To further understand the Criteria for each of these threatened categories, you are invited to review the IUCN Redlist on endangered species.

It is imperative that we do everything possible to invest and protect the environments and habitats of the animals that call them home. Below is a list of some of the endangered animals presented by continent.
